Nordesfer – Armazéns de Ferro, S.A., operates in the market for the sale of steel products to civil construction, public works and metalworking companies.
Rather than seeking to gain market share at any price, it focuses on providing high-quality services to its customers, which does not prevent it from ranking among the largest companies operating in the sector.
Nordesfer – Armazéns de Ferro, S.A., was founded in 1978 as a limited company, as a result of a business project by Mr António Bernardino Cepeda Alves.
The company’s corporate purpose, which remains unchanged today, is the wholesale and retail sale of steel products, namely concrete reinforcing bars, commercial bars, profiles, sheets, tubes, electro-welded mesh, nets for various applications, etc.
The business began in Mogadouro, in premises covering an area of 10,000 m2.
Thanks to the strategy of providing quality service to customers and taking advantage of the economic expansion, it was decided to open branches.
As a result of this policy, we currently have two points of sale with the following locations and installation areas: 10,000 m² in Maia and 6,000 m² in Vila Real.
1978: Nordesfer – Armazéns de Ferro, S.A. was founded as a private limited company, the result of an entrepreneurial project by Mr. Comendador António Bernardino Cepeda Alves. The company began operations in Mogadouro as a steel products unit.
1980 – 1985: In 1980, the Maia warehouses were inaugurated, establishing the first branch. Shortly afterwards, Nordesfer became the main supplier to contractors in the Greater Porto area, and two warehouses were built in Maia. In 1985, a third warehouse was built, along with the social services department and the workshop, which remain in operation to this day.
2008: Nordesfer reached its highest-ever turnover, around 70 million euros.
2015: Passing of Mr. Comendador Cepeda Alves. His wife, Mrs. Maria Elvina dos Reis Coelho, assumed the presidency of the Nordesfer board of directors.
2023: The company celebrated its 45th anniversary. The truck fleet and brand image were renewed.
2024: Founding of NCS Steel Service Center. Based in Azeitão since May 2024, it is the newest metal cutting and shaping service centre in Portugal, with a focus on innovation. It invests in an experienced and specialised technical team and in solid infrastructure and equipment. NCS results from the union of three of the leading names in the national steel product distribution and manufacturing market.
Nordesfer – Armazéns de Ferro, S.A. has an organisational structure focused on operations, with responsibilities distributed among its warehouses across the continent.
These responsibilities report to a general management team that coordinates the company’s entire policy and strategic direction.
